APPLY - 3 Day Documentary Bootcamp in Leigh
Are you an aspiring filmmaker aged 16–25 in Leigh and interested in making a short documentary over 3 days?
We have 10 places available for young people (aged 16–25) to be part of an intensive, hands-on bootcamp taking place in Leigh Town Centre.
Over one evening and a full weekend, you’ll develop, shoot, and edit your very own short documentary alongside award-winning film professionals.
Plus, you can sign up for a 1-to-1 career and CV session during the weekend. This will be on a first come, first served basis.
Bootcamp dates
Day 1: Wednesday 3rd February 6-8:30pm
Day 2: Saturday 7th February 10-5pm
Day 3: Sunday 8th February 10-5pm
Eligibility & Criteria
Priority will go to applicants with a home address in Leigh, Greater Manchester (WN7).
You must be aged 16-25 at the time of applying.
You do not need any prior experience but you must be able to demonstrate an interest in filmmaking and / or documentary making in your application.
You must be available on all bootcamp dates if you are selected on the programme.
What you will get out of it
Build your skills: You will learn the essentials of documentary filmmaking and get hands-on training with professional equipment.
Get advice from award-winning filmmakers: You will be guided and supported by a team of professional filmmakers.
You will make a film from idea to edit: You will shoot and edit a 90 second documentary from scratch over the duration of the bootcamp.
Connect: You will have an opportunity to network with your peers and professional filmmakers.
Career advice: Over the weekend you will have an opportunity to gain career advice and or feedback on your CV.
Screening opportunities: You will watch your films back on the big screen and there may be other opportunities to screen your films in a cinema at a later date (tbc).

Yes.
This bootcamp is completely free. With the support of Wigan Council, the programme has been designed specifically to benefit young people in Leigh, meaning there will be absolutely no cost to you.

We will prioritise places on this bootcamp for Leigh residents. However, if we do not receive enough applications from this area, we will offer places to those living in the wider borough.

Yes.
To get the most out of the bootcamp, we expect you to attend all sessions throughout the duration of the programme. -
This hands-on training course is designed for aspiring and emerging filmmakers to gain knowledge and skills. No prior experience is required but we are looking for applicants who show a genuine passion for filmmaking.

Yes, drinks and snacks will be provided on Day 1. On Days 2 and 3, we will also provide lunch.

All film, sound, and editing equipment will be provided.
We advise participants to bring their phone to stay in touch with the programme team, as well as a laptop or notebook to take notes. -
During the bootcamp, 3 up to 90 second films will be created. You will be placed into groups to work alongside experienced filmmakers.

Each documentary must be be shot and made in and around Leigh town centre.

You don’t need a set idea to apply. However, if there is a story you are passionate about telling please do include it in your application.
Be sure to let us know if you can arrange the filming for it to take place in Leigh during the bootcamp weekend.
